Uppsala International Short Film Festival - TRAILER '11
Cinematography, Film, Advertising
2011
Uppsala International Short Film Festival is celebrating 30 years of screening short films from all over the world. I've been doing the trailers for the festival since 2007. This year I wanted to do something different and wanted to capture the emotions and atmosphere from the typical festival life.
The shooting took one day and was great fun. Huge thanks to everyone that participated and endured the waitings and being in the hot sun for several hours.

With this collection of new artworks from early 2013, I wanted to leave the music and film references and make something personal, stripped from pop cultural hints and words/typography. Still using pictograms as the platform, I wanted to continue to explore ways to use this universal communication language, meant to be informative and easily understood, in an artistic way, using them as bricks to build new images and sceneries.Digital Art, Illustration2013 -
I was asked to depict some of the Swedish films from 2012, for an article in FLM, a Swedish film magazine. I made a total of eight illustrations, five ended up in print.Editorial Design, Graphic Design, Illustration2013 -
In 2012, I got the honor to make the poster for Uppsala International Short Film Festival. I've been doing the trailers for this festival, but this was my first attempt at the official festival poster. It was used in posters and flyers in various sizes, billboards, catalogue, t-shirts, and more.Advertising, Graphic Design, Print Design2013 -
I picked some of the most common new year's resoutions, and made posters for them.

Official movie poster for the short film 'The Devil's Dosh'.
The background wallpaper is made up of symbols that depict different scenes and themes of the film. I also tried to make the pattern look like a devil itself, with different symbols creating eyes, horns and a tongue.

This was an official request from the Marley family, BOND Strategy and Influence, and Magnolia Films, for the new (and first official) documentary about Bob Marley, directed by Kevin Macdonald. The film was released April 20th 2012.
The poster was given to the film crew as thanks rewards, and given out to fans at the premieres.

This is my most ambitious, and maybe also the best, personal work I’ve done so far. I decided to pick a few bands and artists from the rock genre and make pictogram posters for them. Instead of just putting one single pictogram in each poster, like in my previous ‘Pictogram music posters’, I made as many as I could possibly come up with for each artist, and jammed them into one single poster. There is a total of 234 song pictograms in these posters. I started this project Jan 15th 2012, so I’ve been working on this for about five months. I am really happy and proud to be able to present them now.
The bands and artists that I chose are: David Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. I’m aware of the absence of female artists in this list. I’m sorry about that, and I will try to make up for it in future projects.
A big thanks (as always) to The Noun Project (www.thenounproject.com). This is where all the original pictograms come from, and I could not express my gratitude enough to these guys!
Thank you so much in advance, I hope you like my new project!
Best,

An ongoing project of mine, designing alternative film posters for some of my favorite films.Graphic Design, Print Design, Typography2010 -
So, I thought I’d continue with the pictograms, seems like I can’t leave them alone at the moment (big surprise). This time I made some posters depicting songs, which leaves me a lot of new unexplored ground. There will be more of these, as long as I’m happy with the results (I’ll try to be more picky this time, and select the really good ones). Again, let me know if I’m getting boring or too simple.Digital Art, Graphic Design2011 -
An idea for a series with honest logos, revealing the actual content of the company, what they really should be called. Some are cheap, some might be a bit funny, some will maybe be brilliant. I don't know.Graphic Design2011 -
Since I suck at free hand drawing, I focus on remixing existing shapes and figures, giving them a new meaning.Illustration2011 -
I had done a couple of these and was working on the rest, when the French Cinémathèque contacted me and wanted to feature them in an online exhibition, 'Kubrick et le Web'. I now had a good reason to finish them all (although I'm missing 'Killer's Kiss', sorry).

This is an ongoing project, so there might be additional work in this project, in the future.
Big thanks to www.thenounproject.com, who provide a great collection of pictograms. I visit them more often than YouTube, these days.Graphic Design, Print Design2011 -
Just a collection of random work, posters and illustrations of different kinds.Graphic Design, Illustration2010 -
Dear Apple,
this is not meant to be an infringement on your corporate business and logo (or maybe it already is?). This is my tribute to Apple, and all the creativeness that surrounds your company and your products. If you want me to take these images down, please contact me, and I will (I hope you’re fine with it, though). If you happen to even like this little project of mine, feel free to write me a note, I have lots of more ideas. I did these in less than 48 hours. Give me a week, and I’ll make you a hundred. I think different.
Best,
Viktor Hertz
